We are thrilled to offer a virtual Dance Master Series this summer! One positive of COVID-19....we've gotten really good at dance on Zoom and we get to connect with exciting artists. Our Dance Master Series gives students an opportunity to learn from professionals in the dance industry and explore multiple styles from the comfort of their own home.

What: Master classes by dance professionals

Who: JCPA students 11 years old and up

When: Every Monday from 6:00-7:00pm July 6-August 10

Where: Zoom! Once you register you will be emailed the link and meeting code

J Savage is a NYC based performer. He was last seen as David in the off-Broadway revival of Seesaw. Other credits include Footloose at The Kennedy Center, Footloose at the Muny, and Shrek and Oklahoma! at Sacramento Music Circus. A proud Penn State Alum, (WE ARE!) he spends the rest of his time traveling the world.

About Lauren

Lauren Spagnuolo is a dance educator based in the Boston area. She taught ballet at Ja'Duke from 2015-2017, and now teaches Intro to Dance and Advanced Choreography classes at a local public high school as a member of the Fine and Performing Arts Department. She trained in Vaganova ballet technique, which she enjoys supplementing with Balanchine's fun and artistic flair. Recent choreography credits include The Lion King, Matilda and Les Miserables (Framingham Public Schools), and Zombie Prom and Alexander, Who's Not... Going to Move (Walnut Hill School for the Arts). When Lauren isn't teaching or choreographing in schools, she can be found performing with Nozama Dance Collective, a contemporary dance company. Lauren is thrilled to be "back" at Ja'Duke teaching ballet in the Master Series this summer!

About Mike

Michael is currently on furlough from the 1st National Tour of Frozen. He graduated with a BFA in Musical Theater from the Boston Conservatory in 2019, performing in many shows during his time there. Regional credits include North Shore Music Theater, The Muny and the Goodspeed Opera House. He attended LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts as a dance major.

About Alayna

Alayna Dutcher was born in Wilmington, DE, raised in Sioux Falls, SD and now resides in Boston, MA. Her dance training began at Balleraena Dance Studio in Sioux Falls, SD where she participated in the Balleraena Dance Company for four years as well as taking dance in ballet, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, hip hop and funk. Alayna received her Chemistry and Dance degrees from Goucher College in 2018 and participated in the Dancers of Color Coalition and the Hip Hop Team. Her professional work includes being a founding member of the LiRa Dance Company in Sioux Falls, SD directed by Ranea Rasmussen and Lisa Conlin. More recently, Alayna founded Collide-e-scope, which focuses on injury prevention for young dancers through a mind and body approach. She continues to teach at St. Paul's School for Girls- The Dance Conservatory in Baltimore, MD. 

Aside from dance, Alayna is a Clinical Research Assist at Boston Children's Hospital and completing her Masters in Global Health.

About Victoria

Boston-based Victoria Lynn Awkward focuses on dance, visual arts, and empowerment. She is the director of VLA DANCE, the resident dance company of Hibernian Hall in Roxbury, which aims to empower artists and audience members alike through thought-provoking and rigorous dance. Victoria graduated with a degree in Visual and Performing Arts Education from Goucher College. She danced for the Goucher Repertory Dance Ensemble and performed in works by artists including Sidra Bell, Christian Von Howard, Ronen Koresh, Helen Simoneau, Iyun Ashani Harrison, and Iquail Shaheed. As a professional artist, she has performed with Ashani Dances, Attn: Dance, The Davis Sisters, Heather Stewart, and Ruckus Dance. She has worked in marketing for Color Magazine and as an educator through the YMCA and VLA DANCE's educational residencies. She is currently a Midday Movement Series teacher, dancing with Jenna Pollack and a 2019-2020 Institute of Contemporary Art Dance Fellow.

Jeffrey Koch graduated from Ja’Duke in 2015, and the Boston Conservatory in 2019, where he earned a BFA in Musical Theatre with an emphasis in dance. Previous theater credits include Pittsburgh CLO, Goodspeed Musicals, and North Shore Music Theater, not to mention countless Ja’Duke productions, where it all started.
